Matt Murray was perfect coming on in relief for the Pittsburgh Penguins Tuesday night.

The Thunder Bay goaltender entered the Pens second pre-season contest in the third period and stopped all six shots he faced in the Penguins 7-3 victory over the Staal-less Carolina Hurricanes.

Murray is coming off a rookie professional season that saw him capture the American Hockey League's goaltender- and rookie-of-the-year honours.

Former Toronto Maple Leaf Phil Kessel scored twice in his Penguins debut, while captain Sidney Crosby had a goal and two assists.

Marc-Andre Fleury played the first two periods in nets.

Neither Hurricanes captain Eric Staal of Thunder Bay nor his brother Jordan dressed for the Hurricanes.
