THUNDER BAY -- The Northwest Narhwal Swim Club travelled to Toronto to take part in the 2017 NYAC Cup for their first out of region swim meet.
Led by head coach David Iwanysyn and head assistant coach Barry Massaro, the team had an outstanding performance bringing home five medals, 80 per cent of personal best times and placed 9 out of 22 teams in the women division.
Leading the team, Kaitlyn Luu, won two gold medals and a bronze (100 m backstroke, 50m backstroke and 100m breaststroke) followed by Rowan Sharp with a silver medal (50 m breaststroke) and Ana Barcena-Martinez with a bronze medal (50 m breaststroke).
Swimmers that had 100 per cent personal best times were Kaitlyn Luu, Rowan Sharp, Ana Barcena-Martinez, Diego Barcena-Martinez, Katelyn Battigelli, and Nic Battigelli. Swimming fast and with multiple finals on the deck, Diego Barcena-Martinez, Nic Battigelli, Alyssa Bossio, Heather Eyben, Justin Felix and Eric Osala.
Coming up next for the club, their annual NWN Allstate Invitational from Nov. 25 and 26 at Lakehead University.
