THUNDER BAY -- The Manny Furtado era is off to a strong start after his first regular season weekend at the helm of the Lakehead Thunderwolves men’s basketball program.
Lakehead improved their record to 2-0 after a 72-60 win over the York Lions at the Thunderdome on Saturday night.
Entering the fourth quarter trailing by four points, Lakehead went on a 29-13 run to close the game and complete the weekend sweep after a Friday night victory over the Queen’s Golden Gaels.
The two teams started out slow, with Lakehead nursing a 13-6 edge in a defensive first 10 minutes. Scoring picked up in the second as Lakehead hit the halftime recess with a 30-20 lead before York went on a third quarter run.
Forward Bacarius Dinkins recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds while Anthony McIntosh, Dwayne Harvey and Alex Robichaud all finished with double figures in points.
