DRYDEN, Ont. – The Thunder Bay North Stars are no longer undefeated in regulation.
The Dryden Ice Dogs took care of that on Saturday night, using home-ice advantage at Ice for Kids Arena to whitewash the No. 3-ranked North Stars 6-0, in penalty-scarred contest that saw 176 minutes in penalties handed out, including 136 in the third.
Zach Frinke score twice for Dryden and Carson Murison made 25 stops to earn the shutout, the first of the season for the California native.
Dougie Newhouse took the loss, stopping 28 of 34 shots directed his way.
Cameron Coutre, Evan Pakkala, Trey Palermo and Conner Mowatt also scored for the Ice Dogs, who improved to 5-4-2. The Stars slipped to 10-1-1.
Thunder Bay returns home to Fort William Gardens on Friday, when they’ll host the Red Lake Miners in the first of a two-game weekend set.
