The Stars, who also got a pair of shorthanded markers from Mat Kaarela and singles from Mitchell Fox, Quinn Rempel and Kyle Breukelman, scored 10 straight to start the game, before Thunder Bay goalie Marc Nother surrendered goals to Mark Williams and Miles Beason in the latter half of the final period.

Elsewhere in the SIJHL, Benjamin Brouillard netted a pair and added an assist as the expansion Iron Range Ironheads won for just the fourth time in franchise history, knocking of the Sioux Lookout Flyers 7-4 for their first and only road win to date.

At Fort Frances, Dryden's Diego Breckinridge scored a pair of first-period markers to lead the Ice Dogs to a 5-2 upset of the host Fort Frances Lakers, owners of second spot in the SIJHL standings.

Chris Belhumer also had a pair for Dryden, whose other goal came from Tyson Holder.
