Ryan Wildman and Connor Hady scored third-period goals on Saturday to lead the Fort Frances Lakers to a squeaker 3-2 win over the Thunder Bay North Stars.

It was the opening game of the annual SIJHL Showcase for both squads.

Wildman opened the scoring on the power play in the first, scoring the lone goal of the period at the 15:46 mark.

Neither team was able to put the puck in the net in the second.

Thunder Bay's Quinn Rempel knotted the score 24 seconds into the third, and two minutes later Brennen Dubchak scored with the man advantage to give the Stars a 2-1 lead.

In Saturday's second contest the Wisconsin Wilderness continued their winning ways, downing the Dryden Ice Dogs 4-1.
All five goals were scored in the middle stanza.

Andrew Anderson and Nick Drill staked the Wilderness to a 2-1 lead, sandwiching a Tyler Newsome goal for the third-place Ice Dogs.

Wilson Housley, son of former NHLer Phil Housley, netted a pair of insurance markers five minutes apart to put the game away.

Duluth takes on Sioux Lookout in the night cap.
