DRYDEN, Ont. -- Eight wins in their last nine games have put the Thunder Bay North Stars at the top of the league table for the first time this season.

Thunder Bay picked up their fourth straight win Friday night with a 3-1 decision on the road against the Dryden Ice Dogs.

That puts the North Stars one point clear of the Fort Frances Lakers in the Superior International Junior Hockey League standings.

After a Blake Berg power play marker put the Ice Dogs ahead after 20 minutes Thunder Bay struck twice in the second period to gain a lead that would not be relinquished.

Joe Newhouse got the North Stars on the board before Nicholas Nigro scored his third game-winning goal in the past four games for their first lead of the contest.

Kris Hamlin rounded out the scoring.

North Stars goalie Eric Mann made 34 saves in the winning effort.
