North Stars win, start playoffs on Saturday

The Stars, playing a make-up game Wednesday night against the Fort Frances Lakers, eked out a 3-2 in their finale, Jerid Adamson collecting the winning goal midway through the second period.

Cary Brown and Bryce Maggrah scored first-period markers for the Stars, who will open the postseason Saturday night at Fort William Gardens against the Minnesota Iron Rangers in the 4-5 play-in game.

Patrick Sofer and Davis Smith scored the Lakers goals.

The North Stars 28-27-1, finished in fourth place in the standings, three points ahead of the Iron Rangers (26-28-2).

The second place Lakers (35-18-3) will take on the third-place Dryden Ice Dogs in one of two SIJHL semifinals.

The winner of the best-of-three series between the North Stars and Iron Rangers earn a date with the top-seeded Minnesota Wilderness (51-3-2).
