Northern Hawks advance to Jr. B final
The Northern Hawks will be back to defend the Thunder Bay Jr. B Hockey League championship they won a year ago.
The Hawks had an easier time than anticipated in wrapping up their best-of-five series against the Screaming Eagles. The Eagles were forced to forfeit Game 3 due to a lack of dressed players.
Tom Kane would get credit for the only goal in the contest, in what was officially a 1-0 decision, to wrap-up a three game sweep. Netminder Markus Leikkari was awarded the shutout without facing a shot.
The Hawks, who won Games 1 and 2 by 7-3 and 11-2 margins respectively, will now await the winner of the other semi-final to see who they will take on in the final.
That series resumes Tuesday at the Tournament Centre at 8 p.m. as the Jr. B Stars take on the Nipigon Elks in Game 4.
The Stars lead the best-of-five affair 2-1 as they look to close out the other series.
Should the Elks force a fifth and deciding game, that contest will be staged Friday in Nipigon.
The league winner will then advance to the Keystone Cup Western Canadian Jr. B Hockey Championship, which is scheduled for April 14-17 in Sherwood Park, Alta.
