The Northern Hawks scored four times in the first period and would never trail as they skated past the Nipigon Elks 10-3 Tuesday in Thunder Bay Jr. B/Juvenile/AAA Hockey League action at the Tournament Centre.

Cam Gross, Tom Kane, Pat Eisenbach and Nathan Spina all tallied in the opening stanza for the first place Hawks.

Nipigon would get back into the contest in the middle frame striking three times before the 10-minute mark of the period with markers from George Ossachuk, Matthew Mickleburgh and Aric Stein, who notched a power play marker at 9:31.

However the Hawks’ Josh Elvish would answer back just 12 seconds after Stein’s man advantage effort to make it a 5-3 game.

Zac Sentence would then score late in the second to put the Hawks back into full control.

They would then blow it open in the third with four more tallies including two more by Spina as well as singles supplied by Ryan Powell and Sean Cunninghame.

Shots on goal favoured the Hawks by a 50-25 margin with Jordan George picking up the win and Ryan Williams suffering the loss.

Next up on the league schedule will see the Hawks taking on the Screaming Eagles Thursday evening at Delaney Arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
