Rick Bragnalo, Tom Alexander and Scott Timmerman highlight the 2011 class of athletes being inducted Saturday into the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame.
Bragnalo, perhaps the best known of the trio, spent parts of four seasons with the Washington Capitals during the team’s 1970s infancy.
The soon-to-be 60-year-old had 15 goals and 35 assists in 145 games with the Caps, and retired in 1992 after spending several seasons in Italy.
Alexander, who won’t be at the induction ceremony, attended the 1976 Summer Olympics as a swimmer, while Timmerman, a cyclist, was among the world’s best road and track racers in the 1980s.
Also entering the hall are builders Don Gale of Rainy River, who volunteers in several sports, including golf, baseball, hockey and curling, and Lyle McIntosh, a Canadian ski coach who trained World Cup and Olympic medallists.
The final entrant, in the team category, is the Al Hackner senior men’s curling rink, which won Canadian gold and world silver in 2007.
The ceremony takes place Saturday night at the Valhalla Inn.
