The Thunder Bay Triathalon is no more.

Organizers on Wednesday announced they were discontinuing the event, which was staged two times, starting in 2013.

Last year’s race was cancelled because of planned construction in the Boulevard Lake area, where the triathalon was scheduled to be held.

“Unfortunately construction did not occur in 2015 and the organizing committee was informed late in 2015 that construction would now occur in 2017, leading to another planned event cancellation,” the organizing committee wrote in a release issued to local media.

“Cancellations are detrimental to an event’s momentum and success and is the precipitating factor for the organizers formally discontinuing the Thunder Bay Triathalon.”

It’s the second major race to fold in a little more than a year. Last year organizers of the Miles with the Giant: Thunder Bay Marathon called it a day, citing a lack of growth in the annual race as the deciding factor.
