It was close, but no cigar for the LU basketball women on Saturday night.
Owners of a six-point halftime lead and a 12-point third-quarter advantage, the Wolves couldn’t hold it against the Minot State Beavers, falling 76-74 in overtime.
Lindsay Druery had 23 points for the second night in a row, grabbing 11 rebounds to lead the way for the Thunderwolves, who wrapped up exhibition play on a losing note.
Carolyn Fragale had 20 points for LU, while Lacey McNulty and Katie Ulakovic had nine points apiece.
Coach Jon Kreiner, in a statement, said he’ll take the positives as the Wolves get set to hit the road next weekend to Kingston for the start of the OUA regular season.
"This was the type of game we needed heading into league play. We won't see a team with as big and skilled posts as this team and although we need to play better post defense without fouling we did give ourselves a great chance tonight,” Kreiner said.
“Our first half defense was terrific but we still need to find a way to eaxpand the lead when given the opportunity. We let them hang around too long and their offensive rebounding became the difference. Lindsay and Carolyn played well tonight and this was Lacey's best game of the year."
