Taylor Pyatt has a new home.
The Thunder Bay forward, put on waivers on New Year’s Day by the New York Rangers, has been claimed by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The 32-year-old Pyatt will join fellow Thunder Bay NHLer Robert Bortuzzo, who’s been seeing regular action on the Penguins blue-line, in Pittsburgh.
Pyatt has just one assist in 22 games with the Rangers this season, but has 136 goals, 140 assists and 276 points in 825 NHL games, split between the New York Islanders, Buffalo Sabres, Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers.
He was the Islanders eighth-overall draft pick in 1999 and has scored double digit goals seven times in his career.
The Penguins were in search of help at forward after losing Pascal Dupuis to a knee injury for the rest of the season last month. All-star forward Evgeni Malkin has also been sideline, though expect to return to action soon.
