Piche blanks Lakers

Once again it was the North Stars who came out on top.

Mitch Marostica scored the lone goal of the contest with less than five minutes to go in the second period, all the offence Guillaume Piche needed to pick up his second shutout of the 2010-11 campaign.

Piche made 17 saves as the North Stars (20-11-1) won for the third straight outing. It was the second straight loss for the Lakers (19-10-2).

In other Superior International Junior Hockey League play Saturday, Thunder Bay’s Austin Adduono had the night of his junior hockey life, scoring four times and adding two assists as the Wisconsin Wilderness doused the last-place Sioux Lookout Flyers 8-1.

Adduono tied Fort Frances’s Tyler Stevenson for top spot in the SIJHL scoring race. He has 17 goals and 23 assists in 27 games.

Derek Tylka had a pair for the Wilderness, with singles going to Nathan Paulson and Steve Hughes. Wilson Housley had five assists.

Jacob Nolan had the lone goal for the Flyers.

Elsewhere Jon Mitchell and Thomas Greene scored to lead the Dryden Ice Dogs to a 2-1 win over expansion Duluth.
