Tom Pyatt has a new two-year extension with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The NHL team re-inked the Thunder Bay forward to the one-way, $600,000-a-year deal on Monday, locking him up through 2013-14.
"It’s definitely a great feeling, especially this early in the season. It’s nice not having to wait all summer wondering where you’re going to be, where you’re going to play," Pyatt told a reporter from the Lightning's official website. "I’m very happy to be here in Tampa and it’s my first multi-year deal too, so it’s a really good feeling."
Western Florida seems like a good fit, he added.
(I’d like to) set myself up here in Tampa and maybe play here for a long time and have some good years and just help this team get in the playoffs this year.
Pyatt has a career high three goals and five points in 35 games with the Lightning this season and is among team leaders in shorthanded time on ice and blocked shots.
He has seven goals and 10 assists in 136 career games split between Montreal and Tampa Bay. He was a fourth-round pick of the New York Rangers in 2005.
