Lakehead's track team travelled to Minneapolis to compete in University of St Thomas Invitational track meet (Friday) and followed that with the Twin Ports Invite at U Wisconsin-Superior (Saturday).

Mason Quarrell and Marla Keyes were the top performing Thunderwolves in Friday's meet, with Quarrell capturing the gold medal in the 3k race at the UST invite, while Keyes earned the silver in the women's 3k.

Quarrell crossed the line in 8:49.75 (4s ahead of 2nd place), while Keyes' time of 10:41.13 was 11 seconds slower than the winner and less that 1s better than 3rd place.

At the Twin Ports Invite Saturday, Thunderwolf Tyler White won the bronze medal in the mile with a time of 4:38.26.

In the women's mile event, Callie Roelfsema was third as well with a time of 5:34.17, followed by her teammates Jaqueline Desimone and Natasha Frank in 4th and 5th place, respectively. Sarah Friesen and Andrea Zapcic placed 9-10 in the mile.

Coach Kip Sigsworth's synopsis of the weekend was restrained enthusiasm, keeping in mind the remaining work ahead of the team.

"It was an okay weekend. Getting to race in two meets is going to help our athletes as we move into the heart of our schedule the next three weekends," said Sigsworth. "We need to learn from the weekend and improve as the season moves on."
