The Thunder Bay Sportop Queens have improved to 2-0 at the Esso Cup Canadian National Female Midget Hockey Championship in Charlottetown, P.E.I. following a 6-1 triumph over the Edmonton Thunder on Monday.

They opened the tourney with a 12-1 romp over the host Capital District Cyclones Sunday.

Jessica Gazzola had a big day offensively for the Ontario midget AA champions netting a third period hat-trick and adding an earlier assist.

The lone tally of the opening period came off the stick of Queens’ defenceman Brianna Iazzolino with Michela Cava drawing the helper on the play.

After Edmonton’s Sasha Lutz knotted the score early in the middle frame, it was all Thunder Bay after that.

They would take a 3-1 cushion after 40 minutes on markers from Jillian Langtry and Kaitlyn Tougas.

Gazzola then took over in the final session striking three times in a nine-minute span to put the game away.

Cava finished the contest with three assists, giving her eight points in two games.

Megan Leikkari turned aside 24 of 25 shots faced to record the victory.

Next up for the Queens is a 11 a.m. ET encounter vs. the Rebelles de Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean of Quebec. (0-2)
