The trio of Jessica Gazzola, Jillian Langtry and Michela Cava all tallied twice and added one assist each to help pace the Thunder Bay Sportop Queens to an 8-1 triumph over the Rebelles de Saguenay-Lac St-Jean of Quebec in day 3 action at the Esso Cup Canadian National Female Midget Hockey Championship in Charlottetown, P.E.I.

With the win the Ontario midget AA title holders ran their record to a perfect 3-0 in the six-team tourney while also having outscored their opponents by a 26-3 margin.

They grabbed a 2-0 lead after one period of play courtesy of Natasha Nicholl and Langtry.

The Queens then erupted for five goals in the middle session to take full control including a pair by Cava. Notching the others were Langtry, Gazzola and Samantha Strassburger.

Quebec’s Sophie Gagnon spoiled Jayde Turcotte’s shutout bid with an effort late in the stanza.

Gazzola, who earned player of the game honours for her side, rounded out the scoring in the third in a game that saw Thunder Bay out shoot the Rebelles by the wide margin of 50-16.

One more victory will assure Thunder Bay at least a place in the semifinals, which take place Friday.

The Queens will get that opportunity to clinch that playoff spot Wednesday as they go up against the Halifax Metro Boston Pizza squad at 11 a.m. ET.
