Running Room, Terry Fox Foundation hosting special fundraising run

THUNDER BAY -- It’s been 35 years since Terry Fox kicked off his iconic Marathon of Hope.

To mark the occasions the Running Room and the Terry Fox Foundation are hosting a special fundraising run, featuring one-kilometre and 10-kilometre distances.

The goal is to see how many times runners can combined can complete the cross-Canada distance.

“Terry was a runner and a competitor and we are honoured to get out on April 12 and see how many times we can run across Canada,” said Running Room founder John Stanton.

“Terry realized that anything is possible if you try and we want to celebrate his legacy.”

Fox completed 5,373 kilometres of his journey before the he was forced to stop in 1981 just east of Thunder Bay when his cancer returned.

Since his death, the annual Terry Fox run has raised tens of millions of dollars to aid in cancer research.
This year’s Marathon of Hope celebration takes place next Sunday at 8:30 a.m. at the Running Room, located at 379 Main St.
