THUNDER BAY – It took the Lakehead women’s basketball team a little while to get going, but a dominant second half on Friday night earned them their first win of 2019-20.

Up one after 20 minutes, the Thunderwolves outscored the visiting Waterloo Warriors 36-17 in the final two quarters to earn a 68-48 home-court triumph at the C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse.

Lily Gruber-Schulz led the way for the Thunder Bay contingent, finishing with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Rookie Megan Looney had a dozen, while guards Sofia Lluch and Kaylah Lewis came off the bench to pick up 10 points apiece.

Sonja Matthews had 11 to lead the way for winless Waterloo (0-4).

The Wolves (1-4) were playing without guard Tiffany Reynods, who separated he shoulder last weekend and is out indefinitely. Reynolds was named the team’s player of the month for October.
