The Sioux Lookout Flyers have found their man.

Former Thunder Bay Flyers star Derek Levanen has been tapped by the Superior International Junior Hockey League franchise to step behind their bench in 2012-13, taking over for the deposed Brad Zangs.

Levanen will also fill the general manager’s role.

“It’s all about the players. I want to develop them into better hockey players, but more important into men that will succeed in life after hockey,” Levanen says in a release on the Flyers web site.

Most recently Levanen served as an assistant coach with the Northern Hawks Juvenile AAA squad in 2010.

He was the head coach of the Bantam AAA Kings in 2008, and has previous SIJHL experience as an assistant with the defunct Thunder Bay Bulldogs from 2005-2007.

A graduate of the Kings program, the 29-year-old Kakabeka Falls native also played for the Bulldogs in 2002-03, in a career that saw him win an Allan Cup title with the Thunder Bay Bombers in 2005.
