The battle of the undefeated is still on track at Fort William Curling Club.

Thunder Bay’s Joe Scharf and Sault Ste. Marie’s Brad Jacobs each won their morning match on Wednesday at the Northern Ontario Dominion Men’s provincial curling championship, setting the stage for a first-place battle in the afternoon draw.

Scharf scored three in the eighth end to break open a 4-4 tie and went on to beat Stratton’s Tim Nordin 8-6 to improve to 6-0.

Jacobs, the defending champion, made easy work of Englehart’s Dave MacInnes, finishing him off in the sixth end, up 7-1.

Like Scharf, Jacobs also enters Draw 10 with a 6-0 record.

In other action, Thunder Bay’s Jeff Currie stole points in the eighth and ninth end to recover from an early 6-2 deficit and went on to win 8-7 over North Bay’s Dustin Montpellier’s squad. Meanwhile Thunder Bay’s Mike Pozihun pulled himself back into playoff contention and a 3-3 mark, scoring two in the 10th end to earn a 907 triumph over Geraldton’s John Salo.

In addition to the Scharf/Jacobs matchup, Wednesday’s afternoon draw will feature Thunder Bay’s Bryan Burgess taking on former teammate Mike Assad, Robbie Gordon going up against former champion Mike Jakubo and MacInnes taking on Nordin.
