Sportop midget AA Queens ready for 2 Nations Prep series play

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Thunder Bay Sportop midget AA Queens are off to Brampton, Ont., this weekend to compete in the 2 Nations Prep Series event.

Game action for the Queens begins Friday at 10:15 a.m. when they face-off against the Saugeen-Maitland Lightning.

Next up will be an 8:15 p.m. match-up later in the day vs. the Aurora Panthers.

Two more tilts are on the midget AA club’s docket Saturday as they take on the Mississauga Chiefs at 12:45 p.m. before finishing off round robin play with an 8:15 p.m. meeting vs. the Toronto Aeros.

Semifinal action as well as the championship game goes Sunday.

Meanwhile the RBC Dominion Securities bantam AA Queens are heading to suburban Minneapolis for a four-game exhibition series.

They will open up play Friday at 7 p.m. vs. the Anoka Tornadoes.

Thunder Bay will then take to the ice twice Saturday starting with a 9:30 a.m. encounter against Edina Green before wrapping up the day in 5 p.m. match-up with the Wayzata Trojans.

The Queens will then conclude the trip Sunday at 10:15 a.m. when they tangle with the Blaine Bengals.

You’ll also have the Tim Hortons bantam A squad competing locally as they will be taking part in the boys peewee AA division of the Neebing Minor Hockey Thunder on Ice tourney at the Thunder Bay Tournament Centre.

The bantam A’s will start off with a 9 a.m. contest Friday vs. the Elks 82s peewee AA side before meeting the Norwest Stars at 1:30 p.m.

A pair of games is on the Queens’ slate Saturday beginning with a noon start against the Neebing Hawks while they’ll go up against the K.C. Sabres at 4:30 p.m.

The top four teams will advance to semifinal play Sunday morning with the winners there vying for the title at 4 p.m.
