WINNIPEG, Man. – It was a tough start for the Thunder Bay Sportop midget AA Queens in the opener of a three-game weekend set in Winnipeg as they were blanked 7-0 by a powerful Balmoral Hall Blazers prep side Friday evening in the Manitoba capital.

Balmoral Hall came out on fire as the Blazers grabbed a 4-0 lead after one period of play.

They then tacked on three more in the second stanza to conclude the night’s scoring.

Shots on goal in the contest were 31 apiece with Nicole Whitesell posting the shutout.

Aden Johnson started for Thunder Bay and suffered the loss allowing four against while Bailey Chenier gave up three in relief.

The Queens return to the ice Saturday when they take another Manitoba Prep School, in the St. Mary’s Academy Flames at 1:30 p.m.

Thunder Bay then wraps up their trip to Winnipeg Sunday morning as they meet the Flames once again in a 10:40 a.m. start.
