A six-run third will do in most any baseball team.
It killed the Thunder Bay Border Cats chances on Saturday night on the road against the St. Cloud Rox.
Cats starter Ryan Johnson only managed to get one out in the fateful inning surrendering all six runs before being chased after Michael Strem’s two RBI single that put the Rox up 5-0 at the time.
Thunder Bay cut the lead in half with a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth – Penn Murfee and Nate Nolan driving home the latter two runs with singles.
St. Cloud starter Andrew Clemen was pulled with one out in the fifth.
Replacement Sheldon Miks went three innings and was credited with the win, giving up three hits and a walk.
Dan Rizzie was 3-for-4 for the Border Cats, raising his average to .292. Nolan had two hits in four at bats. John Sansone had three hits for St. Cloud, scoring twice, while Lee Miller drove in three on two hits, including his eighth double of the season.
The Cats and Rox will meet again on Sunday.
