Marc Staal is keeping his ‘A’.
The New York Rangers on Monday confirmed the Thunder Bay native will join newly acquired free-agent signee Brad Richards as one of two alternate captains.
Staal, entering his fifth season in New York, took over the role last season when then captain Chris Drury and alternate Vaclav Prospal went down with an injuries.
Staal kept the “A” upon Prospal’s return.
The Rangers also on Monday named Ryan Callahan the team’s 26th captain, taking over from Drury who retired in the offseason.
Staal's older brother Eric is the captain of the Carolina Hurricanes.
