Thunder Bay North Stars fans have known all season long that Daniel Del Paggio is one of the top junior A players in the country.
On Wednesday those beliefs were affirmed when the rookie was named a finalist for the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s Top Forward Award.
The 17-year-old Del Paggio scored 36 goals and added a league-best 69 assists, his 105 points the second highest total in the SIJHL this past season.
Del Paggio, the SIJHL’s player of the year, was initially one of 10 players nominated, one from each Junior A circuit in the country. The list was then narrowed to five. He’s up against William Cochrane of the Terrebonne Cobras, Andy Sturtz of the Carleton Place Canadians, Parker Thomas of the Selkirk Steelers and Taylor Best of the Whitby Fury.
The winner will be announced next week.
