Stars lose in shootout

Galbraith beat Guillaume Piche just 47 seconds after the opening faceoff, then after Thunder Bay’s Mitch Galbraith evened the score at the 7:38 mark of the third, the Dryden forward did it again, handing the Ice Dogs their sixth Superior International Junior Hockey League win in a row.

With the victory Dryden jumped into a tie for second place in the league standings. The North Stars (13-8-1) fell to fourth.

In other SIJHL action Friday night, Tom Paine scored the shootout winner and the Duluth Clydesdales withheld a third period charge by the Sioux Lookout Flyers (5-15-3) and held on to win 5-4.

Duluth (6-13-2) held a 4-1 lead with six minutes to go, but Darnell Ferland, Kalan Ewald and Casey Mertens scored before the buzzer to even the score.
