To be the best, you've got to beat the best.

To be the best, you've got to beat the best.

The Thunder Bay North Stars (11-5-5) did just that on Friday night, erupting for three second-period goals in a 4-2 doubling of ahigh-scoring Fort Frances Lakers squad that must now settle for a share of top spot in the Superior International Junior Hockey League standings.

The Lakers (15-6-2) are tied with Wisconsin (16-3-0), who easily disposed of the expansion Iron Range Ironheads (1-15-0), blanking them 8-0.

Mitchell Fox, Brennen Dubchak and Quinn Rempel helped the Stars build the early lead. Dane Morin cut it to 3-1 early in the third, but Kyle Lapenskie answered four minutes later, restoring a two-goal North Star advantage.

Byron Katapaytuk notched the final goal of the game for the Lakers at 9:44 of the third.
