Stars salvage split with Dogs

Matt Kaarela and Brennen Dubchak scored seven seconds apart late in the third period on Saturday, breaking a tie and leading the Fort William North Stars (12-7-5) to a 3-1 win over the Dryden Ice Dogs (10-9-4).

Kyle Lapenskie, who opened the scoring five minutes into the second, gave the visiting Stars a 1-0 lead, erased eight minutes later by Dryden's Jesse Linner, the third-leading scorer in the Superior International Junior Hockey League.

At Fort Frances the Lakers got goals from six different goal-scorers, including four in the third period, allowing them to squeak past the Duluth Clydesdales 6-4.

At Sioux Lookout. Tanner Milliron made 29 stops as the visiting Wisconsin Wilderness blanked the Flyers 3-0. Anthony Calabrese, Zach BLaisdell and Nick Drill were tallied for the Wilderness (18-3-1), who trail frontrunner Fort Frances (18-6-3) by a point.
