Ryan Lobreau scored two in regulation, but twice given a one-on-one opportunity against Marc Nother, the Dryden Ice Dogs forward couldn’t get the third.

It wound up costing his team a point in the standings.

Brennan Dubchak scored the winner Saturday night in a shootout, his goal giving the Thunder Bay North Stars a 4-3 win, their third straight after seven losses to open the Superior International Junior Hockey League season.

Lobreau staked the Ice Dogs to a 2-0 lead, but the Stars (3-4-3) clawed back, albeit slowly. Brandon Wolframe finally solved Dustin Stevens with five minutes to go in the second to cut the lead in half. Quinn Rempel evened the score 4:25 into the third and 33 seconds later Bradley Cox gave the Stars their first lead of the night, a 3-2 advantage.

Jesse Linner responded at the 15:36 mark for Dryden (5-4-2), sending the game to overtime.

Lobreau, who assisted on the final tally, was awarded a penalty shot in overtime, but Nother turned him away.
The two teams went to a shootout, with Nother stopping all three Ice Dogs sent his way to secure the win.

At Spooner, Wis., Andre Rakas potted the winner with less than five minutes to play in regulation, helping the Wisconsin Wilderness regain top spot in the SIJHL with a 3-2 lead over the Sioux Lookout Flyers.

Brian Erickson and Nick Drill also scored for Wisconsin (9-1-0). Brett Wur and Anthony Wolfe replied for Sioux Lookout (5-5-0)
