Travis Tilley scored twice, including the third period winner Friday night, and the Thunder Bay North Stars showed they still have some fight left in them despite a recent Superior International Junior Hockey League slide.

Tilley’s goal, his ninth of the season and second of the night, came at 9:28 of the final frame, putting the host Stars up 3-1 at the time over the then first place Wisconsin Wilderness at Fort William Gardens.

Kevin Hamel scored in the second period for Thunder Bay, breaking a 1-1 tie.

Keith Tessin and Thunder Bay native Austin Adduono were the Wisconsin goal scorers.

The loss cost the Wilderness (12-3-2) two spots in the standings. Not only did the North Stars (13-7-1) leap frog them, but Wisconsin also ceded first place to the Fort Frances Lakers (13-6-1).

At Sioux Lookout, Henry Gutierrez scored the OT winner three minutes into the extra frame on Friday night, handing the Lakers a 4-3 win over last place Sioux Lookout Flyers. Jacob Nolan and Jake Wentz scored third period goals for the Flyers, erasing a 3-1 Lakers lead.

At Dryden the Ice Dogs got goals from five different players and rolled to a 5-2 win over the expansion Duluth Clydesdales. Dallas Crum got the winner 5:43 into the second. They’ll play a rematch on Saturday night.
