The Thunder Bay Border Cats confirmed Thursday that manager Mike Steed has resigned from his position with the Northwoods League ball club.

The 41-year-old native of Burlington, Ont., said in his resignation from the team that he was leaving because of family reasons.

"After a long conversation with my family and the opportunity for other baseball positions, I have decided not to return to Thunder Bay and manage in 2012,” Steed is quoted as saying in a news release issued by the team Thursday afternoon.

“I would like to sincerely thank owner Brad Jorgenson and the entire Border Cats management staff for allowing me to coach and manage in Thunder Bay for the past three seasons.  It was a great baseball experience and I wish everyone in Thunder Bay the best in the future."

Steed spent three seasons with the team. His first year with the club saw him take on the responsibility of assistant coach. He was then promoted to team manager in the 2010 and 2011 seasons.

During his time with the club, Steed collected a 60-78 record.

"We would like to thank Mike Steed for his commitment to the Border Cats and the sacrifices Mike and his wife, Marlene, made, " Border Cats owner Brad Jorgenson said.

"As one of the most experienced managers throughout the Northwoods League, he will be very difficult to replace, but the organization has already started the process to find a new manager for the 2012 season.”
