Kevin Taylor ended a see-saw battle Sunday with a run-scoring single in the eighth inning that gave the Thunder Bay Border Cats a 3-2 mark on their season-opening road trip.

Taylor’s hit, off Alexandria’s Anthony Bazzani, scored David Fallon and gave the Cats a narrow 6-5 victory in the matinee affair.

It made a winner out of Brian Voigt, despite allowing three late runs that tied the game 5-5.

Donnie White wrapped things up out of the bullpen, earning a save with two scoreless innings of relief.

David Fallon scored twice out of the leadoff spot for the Cats, who broke open a scoreless tie in the fifth and were up 4-1 through their half of the sixth.

The Beetles Jeremy Boyd hit the only homerun of the contest, a solo shot to lead off the seventh.

The third-place Cats return home Monday for their Port Arthur Stadium 2011 debut against Rochester.
