A team of Canada’s world junior hopefuls did a number on a group of OUA all-stars in the hunt to represent their country at the upcoming FISU World University Games next month.

Jordan Smith was the lone Lakehead Thunderwolves player to suit up on Tuesday night in Toronto where his team fell 6-2 to the world junior squad.

Smith, a defenceman, was held off the score sheet in the contest. Charles-Antoine Messier and Maxime Langelier-Parent were the OUA goal scorers.

Ryan Murray, Curtis Hamilton, Carter Ashton, Riley Sheahan, Marcus Foligno and Cody Eakin scored for Team Canada. Despite their efforts, Sheahan and Murray were cut early Wednesday morning as Hockey Canada officials whittled the roster down to the 22 players who will wear the maple leaf at the WJHC in Buffalo later this month.

The OUA team – Canada’s three university conferences rotate representation at the Games – will be chosen on Friday.

Lakehead’s Matt Caria and Kris Hogg are also at camp.
