Ten LU wrestlers qualify for nationals

Emma Brightwell will lead a contingent of 10 Lakehead wrestlers competing at the CIS championships later this month in Thunder Bay.

Brightwell scored a gold medal at the OUA Wrestling Championships Saturday in Hamilton in the 82-kilogram category, where her team finished second overall.

Sara Cattani, Karleah Bonk and Kelsey earned silver medals in their division, while Jenny Pranger and Bre Beh also qualified for nationals with a top three finish in their categories.

On the men's side, the team placed fifth overall, with four wrestlers earning the right to compete at nationals.

Preston Mikulasik (130-kilograms) and Dustin Helwig (54 kilograms) took silver medals, while Jake Devlin and Scott Christian on bronze.

The CIS championship are scheduled for Feb. 24 and 25 at the C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse.
