Thunder Bay's Matt Murray named AHL rookie of the year

Thunder Bay goaltender Matt Murray is the American Hockey League rookie of the year, capturing the Dudley (Red) Garrett Memorial Award.

Thunder Bay goaltender Matt Murray is the American Hockey League rookie of the year, capturing the Dudley (Red) Garrett Memorial Award. 

Murray, a third-round pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins, posted a 25-9-3 record in 2014-15 with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, with a 1.51 goals against average, .943 save percentage and a freshman record 12 shutouts.

Along the way Murray set a new league scoreless streak, holding opponents at bay for 304:11, twice picking up player of the week and goaltender of the month awards.

Last week Murray was named to the AHL all-star team and was named to the all-rookie squad.

Murray was a third-round pick of the Penguins in 2012.
