Thunderwolves advance to D2 women's final

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Jacqueline Desimone’s third-period winner means the Lakehead Thunderwolves will play for a second straight ACHA Division 2 women’s hockey title.

Desimone scored just past the midway point of the middle period on Saturday, delivering a 4-3 triumph over the Bishops Gaiters in semifinal action at the national championship, being played in Columbus, Ohio.

The Gaiters opened the scoring 14 seconds into the contest, Arianne Charette connecting on the first of her three goals on the afternoon.

But the Wolves had an answer, Michelle Carlson evening the score at the 3:54 mark. Alexandra Sawyer edged LU in front before the first came to a close and Julia Siciliano doubled their lead 3:37 into the second.

The Quebec-based Gaiters had the answer, Charette scoring on the power play at 6:08 and again at 15:43 to tie the game 3-3.

The Thunderwolves, who captured the D2 title a year ago, will take on the Minot State Lady Beavers in Sunday’s final, puck drop scheduled for 2:15 p.m.
