The Lakehead Thunderwolves are the sole possessors of top spot in the OUA West Division.
The hockey Wolves doubled the Windsor Lancers 4-2 on Saturday, thanks to a two-goal, one assist performance by Adam Sergerie, and broke a first-place tie with the Western Mustangs, who were edged 5-4 by Laurier in regulation time.
Sergerie and Ryan McDonald staked LU to a 2-0 lead in the first 1:12 of the game, then Sergerie added another in the second as the Wolves got off to another fast start.
However, Mark Thorburn and Spencer Pommels scored before the middle stanza was completed and the Wolves carried a precarious one-goal lead into the third period of the game, played at Windsor Arena in front of 250 fans.
Devin Welsh secured the win, notching his fourth goal with 59 seconds to go in the third.
The Wolves return home next weekend to take on Laurier for a pair.
