The Lakehead Thunderwolves have turned to the Maritime Junior Hockey League for their first recruit for the 2014-15 OUA hockey season.

The team announced Wednesday they’ve landed forward Jake Wright, who had 24 goals and 77 points with the Woodstock Slammers last season.

The six-foot Sault Ste. Marie native won a Dudley Hewitt Cup championship two years ago playing for the Soo Thunderbirds.

“I’m excited to start a new chapter in my life combining hockey and education. After playing the last two years in New Brunswick, I’m looking forward to being closer to home, and it’s an honor to be joining a team of this calibre,” he said in a release.

Coach Bill McDonald has high hopes for his latest acquisition.

“Jake Wright has a competitive edge to his game.  He’s very good in front of the net and along the boards - he goes to the hard areas to create goals.  Plus he adds versatility in that he can play both centre and wing.”
