Thunderwolves swept by UOIT

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Lakehead Thunderwolves hit the Christmas break on a two-game losing streak.

The host University of Ontario Institute of Technology Ridgebacks on Saturday scored the game’s first three goals and went on to defeat the Thunderwolves 3-1 for the second straight night to complete the weekend sweep.

Mike Robinson scored a pair of first-period goal to lead the way offensively for the Ridgebacks.

Patrick Murphy cut the UOIT lead to 2-1 two minutes into the third, his second of the season, but Ridgebacks defender Alex Yuill restored the two-goal lead in the final minute of the middle stanza.

Devin Green faced 28 shots in taking the loss for the Thunderwolves, who finish the opening half at 6-8-1.

Brendan O’Neill made 23 saves for UOIT (8-5-1).

Claw marks: The Wolves snapped an 0-34 power play drought on Friday night, but were O-2 with the man advantage on Saturday.
