Chris Green has once again turned west to land his latest recruit.
The Lakehead women’s volleyball coach on Thursday announced he’s added 5-foot-8 setter Haley Melhorn of Regina to the 2015-16 lineup.
It’s a depth move, Green said in a release, adding Melhorn has a great set of hands.
“We’ve added another setter to our lineup that will keep the level of competition high in practice and provide Lakehead with strength at this position for the future,” says Green.
A 2014 senior girls all-star in 2014 and the 2013 most valuable player at Archbishop M.C. O’Neill High School, Melhorn is a welcome addition, Green added.
“Haley brings a wealth of training credits to Lakehead. Her desire to play at the next level is a true indication of her passion and desire,” he said.
“She has had multiple training and development streams in her path to the next level. Any player who puts that time and energy into their development is clearly passionate. Passion is a valuable tool for the next level and feeds the growth it requires to play.”
For her part, Melhorn says Lakehead was the right choice.
“It is the perfect place for me to grow and develop as a person, student and athlete. Leaving home will get me out of my comfort zone, which is why choosing a smaller school was important to me. I know that the transition will go well with the support and encouragement from my family and teammates,” she said.
