Lakehead volleyball made huge strides this season, making the playoffs for the first time since 2006.

Team officials are hoping new recruit Sara Potter helps them continue that tradition.

The Kitchener, Ont. native, a 5-foot-7 outside hitter who plays at Forest Heights Collegiate, the Thunderwolves announced Thursday she had committed to the program.

“After coming to Lakehead for a visit if February, I am even more excited to get started,” Potter said in a release issued by the team.
“Everyone is so welcoming and there is a real sense of community. I had the opportunity to attend a training session with the team and there is so much team spirit, they all support one another.”

LU coach Chris Green said he’s impressed with his newest player’s passion, personality and intentions.

“Her focus is to come here and be coached to advance her skill and her game,” Green said. “Training the way we do, it’s contagious to any competitive athlete who wants to advance their game.”

After a slow start the Wolves roared back to finish 9-9 on the season, losing in three straight to York in the opening round of the playoffs.
