A former member of the Lakehead Express soccer team has been named Canadian Interuniversity Sport rookie-of-the-year.
Kelsey Tikka, who plays for the Sir Wilfred Laurier Golden Hawks, helped her school capture the OUA championship last week.
Tikka and former Express teammate Amanda Mithrush are in contention for a national women’s soccer title this weekend in Charlottetown at the eight-team CIS national championship.
The Hawks beat UBC 1-0 in Thursday’s quarterfinal, and play the University of Montreal Carabins on Saturday afternoon.
