The high school senior girls volleyball playoffs started Monday night and it was the end of the line for a pair of teams.
Churchill rolled past St. Patrick 3-1, dropping the first set 25-14 before rebounding with three straight wins to advance to Wednesday quarterfinal match against Superior Collegiate.
The No, 4 Gryphons earned their berth with a 3-1 win over Westgate, mirroring No.3 Churchill's start by losing the first set 25-12 then capturing the next three.
Both St. Patrick and Westgate were eliminated from contention.
Wednesday's other semifinal will see No. 2 St. Ignatius take on No. 1 Hammarskjold in the Vikings gym.
In boys curling Superior downed Westgate (Orange) 9-1, St. Ignatius edged Churchill 5-4 and Westgate (Black) blanked St. Patrick 10-0.
St. Patrick takes on Hammarskjold on Wednesday in Round 1 of the playoffs at Port Arthur Curling Club, while Dennis Franklin Cromarty plays Churchill.
On the girl's side, Superior knocked off Westgate 7-1 and Churchill beat Hammarskjold 5-1. Round 1 of the playoffs gets under way on Thursday at Fort William Curling Club, with Westgate playing Hammarskjold. Superior Collegiate gets a bye.
