Trojans hit HS basketball final

The Trojans on Thursday punched their ticket to the Superior Secondary School Athletic Association final, thumping the St. Ignatius Falcons 71-39 in semifinal play. Brandon Myketa was the scoring hero for Churchill, pumping home 29 points. Lucas Socchia had 15 for the Falcons.

The Trojans were also kings of the court in junior boys play, rolling their record to 18-0 and a spot in the final with a 77-34 win over Superior Collegiate.

Justin Fui had 27 for the victorious side, while Devon Prontack paced the Gryphons with 10.
Churchill will take on Westgate in Friday’s final. The Tigers made easy work of St. Ignatius, beating them 48-23.

The Tigers were led by Eric Mantyla’s 14.

In girls curling, in the elimination round, Westgate blanked Churchill (Grey) 3-0 and Superior downed Hammarskjold 6-2.

Finally, in junior girls volleyball playoffs, St. Ignatius advanced to the final with a 3-1 win over St. Patrick and will meet Churchill, who edged Westgate 3-2.
