Ultimate Gymnastics News Release:
Thunder Bay’s Ultimate Gymnastics enjoyed amazing success over the weekend at the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) Ontario Championships, held April 9-12th at the St. Denis Centre in Windsor.
The club returned home with 2 Silver Medals around their necks, making several trips to the podium throughout the event.
Leading the way with Silver Medal finishes were Julie Bica (Level 6 - Age 13), who churned out a phenomenal performance on Floor, earning her a score of 9.625; and Aimee-Leigh Balec (Level 8 - Age 14+), who, in the Individual Event Finals for Level 8 Balance Beam, brought down the house with a near-perfect score of 9.95 (out of a possible 10).
The five-member team from Ultimate officially put the gymnastics community on notice, as several other performances resulted in a trip to the podium.
Bica, also picked up a 7th place finish on Balance Beam with a very strong 9.60 score, while Balec ‘s 9.375 outing on Floor was good enough for a Top 10 finish.
Cassandra Boyer (Level 7- Age14/15), put forth an amazing effort earning herself a 5th place finish on Balance Beam with a score of 9.40, and 8th place on Vault after a strong 9.375 tally.
Emily Ukrainec (Level 8 Age 11), the club’s youngest member, grabbed herself a 5th place finish on Vault and 9th place with a solid 9.25 on Floor.
Kathleen Varey, enjoyed very strong showings on Vault and Floor, nailing down 13th place finishes on both with exciting scores of 9.15 and 9.275 respectively.
With the Provincial Competitive season coming to a close, the club now turns its attention to its invitational competitive athletes, who will attend the Woodbridge (ON) Invitational April 24-26.
