THUNDER BAY – UQTR’s loss is the Lakehead Thunderwolves gain.

On Thursday the OUA ruled that because they used an ineligible player in 13 games this season, ranging between Oct. 7 to Nov. 18, the UQTR Patriotes would be forced to forfeit each one, including a pair of victories over the Lakehead Thunderwolves.

The Patriotes took the series opener 3-1 on Oct. 20, the Wolves home debut, and completed the sweep the following night, downing Lakehead 4-1.

The decision vaults Lakehead into sole possession of sixth place in the OUA West with a 10-7-2 record, two points behind Brock with a game in hand.

Before the results were overturned LU was tied for sixth with Western, this weekend’s opponent, with identical 8-9-2 records.

The Patriotes, who were 15-3-4 and dropped to 7-14-1 also forfeited its final seven games a year ago.

Other teams picking up points were Laurentian (4) and Nipissing (3), Carleton (2) and Queen`s (2).

The OUA did not name the player involved.

A similar situation cost the Thunderwolves a pair of wins in 2002-03, when the league ruled forward Troy Kahler was not eligible to play.
