Volleyballers fall to 1-16

Fresh off their first and only win of the season, Lakehead's struggling Thunderwolves volleyball team crashed back to reality on home court Friday night.

Fresh off their first and only win of the season, Lakehead's struggling Thunderwolves volleyball team crashed back to reality on home court Friday night.

The Wolves fought hard to net their second win, but fell short at the Thunderdome against the visiting RMC Paladins, falling 3-1.
Lakehead lost the first set 25-23, fought back to win the second 25-22, but then dropped two straight, 25-19 and 25-22 to lose the match.

The Wolves were led by Fort Frances native Michelle Cournoyer, who collected 13 points on 10 kills and three blocks, and Claire Morrison, who had 11 kills and four digs.

"Full marks for RMC – coming on the road and playing hard.  On our side it was about execution on crucial points. Really the one aspect that hurts us all year, the crucial opportunities," said LU coach Chris Green.

"We get an over-bump and we don't block it. We get a free ball, and we do not hit according to our plan. If our target is to hit line over the shorter blocker then we MUST do it, not hit the big blocker. I guess we still are learning this."

The two sides wrap up regular season play on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
